WASHINGTON, D.C. – A bipartisan resolution honoring the cutting-edge work of Department of Defense (DoD) laboratories passed the United States Senate yesterday. The resolution, sponsored by U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Joe Donnelly (D-IN) also supports the designation of May 18, 2017, as “Department of Defense Laboratory Day”. The resolution commits to finding ways to increase funding for the national network of DoD labs, which are crucial to maintaining United States Armed Forces superiority.

Portman said, “I am extremely proud of the work being done at DoD labs like the Air Force Research Lab at Wright-Patt. This work is absolutely critical to our national security and maintaining our technological edge and also serves as catalyst for innovation in the private sector and academia.”

Donnelly, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said, “Department of Defense labs, including Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane in southern Indiana, foster American innovation and give our servicemembers the tools they need to fight and win on the battlefield and come home safely. This bipartisan resolution honors the critical work these labs do every day at sites across the country.”
