Portman To WH: If You Don't Like Senate Dems' Spending Bill, Let's Talk About GOP Jobs Plan?
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) expressed hope that the White House’s Statement of Administration Policy criticizing the Senate Democrats’ jobs proposal was a sign that the Administration was finally accepting the reality that Democrat spending proposals like the stimulus bill have not created the promised job growth.
"I was pleased to see that the White House might be coming around to the idea that more spending does not equal more jobs, and that the big government approach of historic increases in regulations, spending and budget deficits, combined with higher costs of doing business has not worked,” said Portman, who recently authored the Senate Republican Jobs Plan as a way to jump-start our economy.
"Senate Republicans stand committed to getting our economy back moving again, and believe that strong economic growth requires new, pro-jobs policies. Since the White House seems uncomfortable with the Senate Democrats’ spending bill, maybe they’ll take an opportunity to look at the Senate Republicans’ Jobs Plan, with its commonsense and bipartisan ideas that would immediately spur job growth,” continued Portman.
Late on Tuesday, the Obama Administration released a Statement of Administration Policy stating “the bill would authorize spending levels higher” than even the President’s budget.
