CINCINNATI, OH – Senator Portman released the following statement in response to the passing of former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who died today at the age of 88:

“Jane and I were sad to hear of the passing of our friend, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. As a member of Congress from Illinois, an Ambassador to NATO, an advisor to multiple presidents, a two-time Secretary of Defense, a Naval aviator, and in so many other roles, Secretary Rumsfeld was a patriot who time and time again answered the call of public service and served his country with distinction. I greatly appreciated having the opportunity to work with him, including in the Bush administration when he was Secretary of Defense and I was Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

“Our thoughts are with his wife Joyce, his three children, and all his loved ones as they mourn the loss of this great American.”
