Portman Statement on Ohio Unemployment Report

August 19, 2011 | Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement regarding the uptick in Ohio’s unemployment rate to 9.0 percent:

“The rise in Ohio’s unemployment should be a signal to Washington that President Obama’s big government approach of more regulations, more government spending and record budget deficits has not worked.

“With 529,000 Ohioans out of work and twenty-two million Americans unemployed or underemployed today, Washington cannot afford to ignore the underlying problems that are stifling economic growth.

“America needs a strong economic recovery and lower unemployment which requires new, pro-growth policies, such as those in the jobs plan I have laid out.”

Portman, who recently drafted the Senate Republican Jobs Plan as a way to jump-start our economy, also highlighted seven steps to create jobs and grow the economy in the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
