WILLOUGHBY HILLS, OH – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) delivered remarks at the Willoughby Rotary Club meeting. Portman provided updates as it relates to the bipartisan infrastructure negotiations and how he is working with a bipartisan group of senators to craft a package focused on core infrastructure without corporate or individual tax hikes.

In addition, Portman highlighted his bipartisan Jumpstart Our Businesses By Supporting Students (JOBS) Act. This legislation would better support today’s students by making high-quality, shorter-term education and training programs eligible for federal Pell Grants. By expanding Pell Grant eligibility, the JOBS Act would help close the skills gap so workers can afford the job training and credentials that are in demand as industries have shifted as we continue to recover and rebuild from COVID-19.

“I enjoyed speaking with the Willoughby Rotary Club this afternoon. I shared updates on the infrastructure negotiations in Washington and how this emerging bipartisan framework would benefit northeast Ohio. I also discussed the need for my bipartisan JOBS Act, legislation that would better support today’s students by making high-quality, shorter-term education and training programs eligible for federal Pell Grants,” said Portman. “Overall, we must do a better job of ensuring that more Americans have the skills that match the jobs that are available today. I appreciated the feedback I received today, and I will continue working to improve the economy and help working families and small businesses succeed and flourish.”
