Portman Applauds President Trump’s Nomination of Justin Herdman to Serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) applauded President Trump’s nomination of United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Justin Herdman, to serve as the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia. Mr. Herdman has served as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio since August 2017. Portman released the following statement:

“I am pleased the president selected Justin Herdman to serve in this important role. He has served as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio admirably and been a great partner in addressing the opioid crisis, human trafficking, China’s theft of U.S. taxpayer-funded research, and violent crimes. I am confident he will continue to serve the country well in Washington. I look forward to identifying a new U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio who will carry on Mr. Herdman’s excellent work soon.”

NOTE: In 2017, Portman recommended Justin Herdman U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio and later released a statement applauding his nomination and confirmation.  Mr. Herdman was a Partner at the Jones Day law firm in Cleveland, Ohio.  He previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Cleveland, Ohio.  As a prosecutor, he litigated several terrorism cases and prosecuted highly complex matters.  Mr. Herdman has also served as an assistant district attorney in New York City.  He served as a judge advocate in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for Youngstown’s 910th Airlift Wing.  He received his law degree from Harvard Law School and his undergraduate degree from Ohio University.  He also taught as an adjunct professor of law at Case Western Reserve University.
