Portman Announces U.S. Senate Page for Summer 2019 Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) announced on Monday that he has appointed Malik Chandler, a junior at Metro Institute of Technology in Columbus, to serve as a U.S. Senate Page for the Summer 2019 program, starting on July 8 and ending on August 2. Malik will have the opportunity to work in the Senate chamber and assist with day-to-day operations at the Capitol.
“Malik is among Ohio’s most promising young leaders,” said Portman. “He has demonstrated his talent in academics, and we are excited to watch him excel in the fast-paced world of the Senate, as well.”
“I am greatly honored for the opportunity to serve as a Page for the United States Senate and to be selected by Senator Portman. I will strive to learn as much as possible in order to be an asset to Senator Portman and to successfully represent my home state of Ohio,” said Chandler.
Page responsibilities include delivery of correspondence and legislative materials within the congressional complex, taking messages for members, preparing the chamber for Senate sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the desk. The Senate Page Program is administrated by the Sergeant at Arms, the Secretary of the Senate, and the party secretaries.
