WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Rob Portman, (R-Ohio), former Director of the Office of Management and Budget, announced today that he has hired Brian Riedl to be his chief budget aide.

"I welcome Brian Riedl to our team, whose budget expertise and extensive background in fiscal policy will significantly help in the fight to rein in Washington’s spending,” said Portman. “I look forward to working with Brian to draft pro- growth, fiscally responsible measures that will get our economy back on track."

Prior to this, Riedl spent a decade as The Heritage Foundation's lead budget analyst, and has built a sterling reputation for expertise in the often arcane realm of federal budget policy. His op-eds and analysis regularly appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times. He has also discussed budget policy on NBC, CBS, PBS, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, and C-SPAN.

Before coming to Heritage in 2001, Riedl worked for then-Gov. Tommy Thompson, former Rep. Mark Green (R-WI) and the Speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly. Riedl holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from the University of Wisconsin, and a master's degree in public affairs from Princeton University.
