VIDEO: Portman Celebrates Groundbreaking for NASIC Intelligence Production Center Expansion
In a new video, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) highlights his recent visit to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where he participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of an expansion for the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC).
Portman has worked hard to ensure that the funding for NASIC’s main campus needs are met through the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Last year, the fiscal year 2020 NDAA conference report included $120.9 million to upgrade NASIC, which is funding the expansion celebrated at the groundbreaking. The expansion will provide much-needed secure spaces that meet the demands of the growing workforce and the associated information technology requirements of modern facilities.

“I was at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base today for a very exciting groundbreaking. This was for the National Air and Space Intelligence Center – a needed expansion. These are the men and women who advise our military, advise our country, as to what the threats are in air and in space from foreign adversaries and help to ensure that we’re doing the right things with regard to our military to keep us all safe. They do a great job. 900 more people are now going to be employed here at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with this expansion.
“I fought hard to get the funding for this. In fact, we had success in getting it all in one year, rather than spread out over a few years, which was the original proposal. That has enabled us to have this groundbreaking today and to begin the process of giving the men and women who are protecting all of us the facility they need to be able to do so most effectively. So, I was proud to be here with Congressman Turner and with our friends at NASIC and at the other Wright-Patterson Air Force Base missions.
“It’s up and up for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. We’ve now hit 30,000 employees for the first time in over 30 years. We hope to get to 35,000 thousand in the next few years. We also hope to get the Space Command here. But Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is doing well and doing a great job helping us, again, to protect our country.”
