Washington, D.C. – U.S.  Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) released the following statement following his meeting with Treasury Secretary Nominee Jacob Lew:

“Today I had a constructive and substantive conversation with Mr. Lew about the most pressing fiscal and economic issues facing our nation. The Secretary of the Treasury has the potential to play a key role in the kinds of entitlement and tax reform needed to address the nation's record debt and relatively weak economic growth and high unemployment.  I spoke to him about the need to create an environment that will provide the opportunities hard-working Ohioans need to get back to work.  I look forward to participating in Mr. Lew's hearing in front of the Senate Finance Committee.  I hope he takes advantage of the hearing to discuss in further detail what the Administration is willing to do to secure our vital yet unsustainable entitlement programs and modernize an antiquated and uncompetitive tax code in a way that will spark economic growth and jobs."
